We went to Mothercare today .....

mothercare

At teatime today I went to Mothercare / Early Learning Centre at Blackburn. I just popped in whilst I was in the area, as I was leaving Asda.

The main reason I went is because a customer on the telephone today asked for a price match on an amicor sprung mattress, he said that they were only £59.99 in Mothercare. I was rather shocked & just had to check it out myself. The Mothercare website was acting rather sluggish at the time, so I took the opportunity to call in while I had the chance. By the way, we were already £3 cheaper!

Anyhow, while I was there I bought a new cheap, folding buggy & a buggy accessory pack for my 14 month old grandson. I also bought him some stacking rings which have already this evening proved to be far too simple for him to play with. What a waste of £10! The buggy is great though & I plan on using it on Saturday on a day trip to Liverpool to see the HMS Illustrious which is docked there at the moment.

Getting back to the subject, it turned out that a cot bed spung mattress with an amicor cover in Mothercare (online) costs £89.99 so our customer today didn't save £3, he saved £33 and I must stress that a Baby Mattresses Online mattress is far superior in quality. The Mothercare version was only covered with Amicor fabric on one side. Our version is covered all over with amicor fabric.

I was quite shocked in store. I was surpised how such a huge brand as Mothercare had so little choice and lack of expert advice available on baby mattresses. Baby's mattresses are a really serious subject and major purchase. They are not designer or fashion items. It doesn't mattter if they "look nice" in baby's nursery. At the end of the day they are covered with a sheet & probably a really bonny duvet or blanket! They are as much important as a well fitting and safe baby car seat.

If you need any advice at all on choosing your baby's mattress please contact us. There's always at least four of us available to answer your queries. You can either email us, telephone us, write to us or we usually have live assistance on our website. We do realise that choosing a baby's mattress is possibly a minefield of choices, a scary & daunting area - we are here to help & we'll get back to you straight away.
