Beautiful ideas for your baby’s nursery

baby nursery

A new baby is a wonderful addition to any family, and it is natural to want to ensure that a beautiful room is waiting for the new arrival.  With a little planning the room can be both practical and stylish, and be completely different to most other nurseries.

 Design ideas

If the baby’s room is large enough, why not include somewhere for an adult to sleep?  This can be useful during the night when there are feeds to be done, and rather than installing a full sized bed, there are more modern options such as one of the stylish recliner sofas.  This can be used to sleep on, or relax on during the day with baby.  They are available in a variety of colour schemes to blend in with the overall decor.

For many years the fashion for nursery woodwork was in light colours, but these days it is very trendy to opt for darker tones.  This works well as long as the overall theme is not too dark, and can look great in contrast with pastels and warm colours such as orange.  Pale colours are more suited to a smaller room as they help make it look larger; but in general darker colours tend to be more elegant and give a warmer feel to the room.

The most important aspect of the baby’s room is usually the cot.  There are plenty of different designs to choose from.  The most practical are those with sides that drop down, making it easier to grasp and lift the baby.  Keeping the cot simple is a good idea, as more elaborate visual aspects can be devoted to the sheets and blankets.  Alternatively, there are items such as Moses baskets and cribs which can be installed into the nursery.  On a practical level, these are not long-term options as the baby will grow out of either fairly quickly - although as furniture items they are very beautiful and can add a touch of elegance to the room.

Also available are cots that convert to a small bed when the child becomes a toddler.  On a practical level these are a good choice for parents for whom funds might be limited, and make for future convenience as baby moves into the growing years. No mattreser which size of cot or cot bed you have for your baby, at Baby Mattresses Online we can make you an exact fitting, custom size baby mattress.

Adding artwork

Nursery walls no longer have to be plain, or papered with cartoon characters.  There are a number of ways to create a classic design that will last for many years as the child grows into a toddler and beyond.  One of the simplest methods is to decide on a plain colour for the walls, and then place or hang artwork that can be changed when required.  Wall stickers are ideal for this.  They can be removed without damaging the paintwork, and come in a variety of designs from floral motifs to super-heroes.

Opting for a simple approach means that the room can be redecorated easily as the baby grows.  Individual touches can be added or removed as baby develops his or her own tastes and preferences, and the nursery will adapt itself as the little one progresses through the years.
