Ventilation holes are only applicable to foam mattresses. The mattresses are breathable without ventilation holes, but to have them encourages fresh air to circulate throughout the mattress and around your child. The only disadvantage to having the holes would be that if your child is heavily sick , or heavily soils the mattress and this manages to soak through the cover and into one of the holes it would be difficult to clean. All of our mattress are made to measure, please only take 1cm off the length and width, as you want the mattress to git in the crib snug, as yo do not want a gap bigger than 4cm.
